Colour inspirations ~ SUMMER edition

hello there SUMMER!!!!  i don't know about you, but I have always felt that the July 4th weekend marked the epitome of summer and I am sure I am not the only one attempting cart-wheels or somersaults through the sprinkles on the front lawn.  the smell of fresh cut grass and homemade lemon aid is literally permeating the air.  breathe it in ...

in honor of the most celebrated season of the year, here are the best color inspirations for SUMMER!

white: one of the most under-rated colors. a crisp white color in a room gives it the clean airy feeling of the ocean breeze flowing through. on window treatments, it allows extra light to come through. no matter what color you decide to use for your summer face lift, incorporating white into the theme of the room can really set the tone that summer has arrived!

yellows & golds: these two color scream summer as many people think of the sun. all tones of yellow and gold work well for summer.  for a cheerful, fresh look, pair the yellow hue with orange and white.

citrus: the fruit of the season ... citrus colors are always synonymous with summer.  their fresh, tantalizing hues are a reminder of the season.  the idea of fresh fruit popsicles, a lemon aid stand or a slice of a lime in your afternoon cocktail.  citrus colors work as great accents to neutral basis.

plums & purples: the color of royalty, purple is also a reminder of brilliantly arrayed summer gardens and fields. lavender fields are in full bloom in summer.  it can be elegant and timeless when paired with silver, cheerful and fun when paired with yellow. or, go with a lighter shade and pair lavender with gold for a bright, cheery scheme.

shades of blue: the color of the ocean is also the shade of peace and relaxation. it adds a dreamy, tranquil element to your decor as well as a touch of glamour. try something fun and use navy blue which has a nautical, clean feel. you won't want to introduce too many other colors if using navy, though. keep it to accents of white and green, as in foliage-green. these hues work well with classic design.

teal: not quite blue, not quite green, but a brilliant summer choice. pair it with silver and white for a cool, refreshing color scheme. pair it with melon pink for a fun tropical feel. or add some yellow to your aqua and let both colors really pop!

pastel colors: although more frequently seen in the spring, these soft shades can add an exquisite touch to summer décor or fashion. instead of making a pastel hue the main star, consider using it as an accent color.
